Bayreuth Tigers: Bitter pack in Dresden

DRESDEN (ab) – The euphoria after the derby opening victory over the Selber Wölfe has given way to the quick disillusionment: The Bayreuth Tigers received a violent 2: 7 pack from the Dresdener Eislöwen and did not have the slightest chance of victory.

After a brisk start by Ratmann, the Wagnerstadt team quickly took the lead (4th) and again seemed to be on the right path against the opponent, who had been beaten twice in the preparation phase. But within a minute the momentum tipped. A shot like a line from a half-right position, which Knackstedt fired after seven minutes, hit the corner and equalized for the Saxons. Less than half a minute later it was Porsberger who picked up a long pass from Karlsson from his own third of the game and gave Herd no chance. The hosts, who were on the upswing, were caught off guard again: Zimmermann tunnelled Schwendener and compensated for it. But that should have been it for the Tigers.

Special teams as a key factor

Above all, the special teams turned out to be an Achilles heel for the Bayreuthers in the final two thirds. While one could not capitalize on the only two penalties of the Dresdeners, they proved their qualities. First Andres scored in the majority, before Jordan Knackstedt shot out the two-goal lead, outnumbered – bitter for the Tigers, who had to accept a shorthander against Selb. When Ribarik also missed the connection goal in the final round, it finally went in the direction of the ice lions. First Mrazek made the apparent preliminary decision, before Filin and Knackstedt again shot out the victory in the majority. “7: 2 sounds and is clear. Dresden came tough from the start and, despite the 2-2 draw, we never had our defensive zone under control and were able to solve things. We didn’t win enough duels either, ”was the brief conclusion of the Bayreuth coach Petri Kujala shortly after the game.
