Bau – Offenbach am Main – Setback for planned multifunctional arena in Frankfurt – economy

Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) – Setback for the planning of a multifunctional arena in Frankfurt: Until the deadline on May 11, the Langano bidding consortium had not received a final offer, the Main metropolis announced on Wednesday. The responsible city councilors were therefore disappointed, first waiting for the explanation of the reasons. Langano emerged from the bidding process as a “preferred bidder”. The city is now looking at the competitor AEG Anschutz. The project involves a hall at the Kaiserlei location next to the 661 motorway.

“It is a sad day for professional sports in Frankfurt am Main,” said sports director Markus Frank (CDU) according to the message. “Because after years of waiting for an attractive competition venue that should not only increase the playing conditions, but also the marketing conditions for the sports of ice hockey and basketball, the realization of the project is a long way off.”

According to Jan Schneider (CDU), head of construction and real estate, everything had been prepared “in order to be able to grant a heritable building right for the urban property on Kaiserlei at reasonable conditions”. According to the city, competitor AEG Anschutz only recently expressed his continued interest in the project, “so that the further process could be continued with him”. The talks would be started at short notice.
