Worldwide, 1.7 million Fitbit Ionic smartwatches are recalled by Fitbit. The smartwatch battery could overheat, causing users to burn themselves. The American consumerenwaakhond CPSC announced the recall.
In total, Fitbit received about 174 complaints about the watch. 118 people actually suffered burns. Two of them had third-degree burns and four had to be treated for third-degree burns.
Fitbit has urged all owners of an Ionic to return their watch. The users get their money back and in addition they get a coupon for 40 percent discount on future purchases.
