They also had a rope with them. But apparently the plan went wrong. The massive safe in the back room remained untouched.

An off-road vehicle drives at 3.21 a.m. on Monday in front of the Coop Pronto petrol station shop in Embrach ZH. Two masked men get out and go to the door while the driver drives backwards into the window several times. The door breaks and shelves fall over inside the shop.

Two offenders rush into the shop. One pulls a rope, which is obviously attached to the off-road vehicle, jumps over the counter and wants to tie something to it. But somehow the plan doesn’t work. The thieves only steal the coin tills with around CHF 2,000 change. They flee from the shop, jet off, while the SUV previously stolen in Embrach is still pulling the useless rope.

The safe remained untouched
The battering ram broke in only two minutes. But the damage to the shop is massive: almost the entire window front and the front door broke. The property damage amounts to several tens of thousands of francs. The massive safe in the back room remained untouched.

“I have no idea what they wanted with the rope,” says managing director Carlos Sousa (45) to BLICK and shakes his head as he shows the surveillance videos. He was alarmed by the security company in the middle of the night. “I went to the gas station to see if it was a serious or false alarm,” he says. When he found his smashed gas station shop, he immediately alerted the police.
Carlos Sousa says: “It wasn’t worth it for so little money.” The clean-up and repair work is now a lot of work for him and his team. “But I’m just glad that there was no armed robbery against my employees during opening hours.”
