Batch of COVID-19 vaccines brought to Antarctica

9 months after the launch of vaccinations against coronavirus, the AstraZeneca vaccine also reached Antarctica. The party arrived for British polar explorers at the Rothera research station.

This week, 23 members of the British Rother Research Station were vaccinated. The vaccine doses were transported while maintaining the temperature at 2-8 degrees Celsius.

“The ability to vaccinate people will help keep the population of the station and Antarctica virus-free,” said Matthew Phillips, head of the Rothera winter station.

The next batch of vaccine for the second vaccination will be delivered to Antarctica in 4 weeks.
