Basketball player Derrick Michael almost fainted before meeting Jokowi

Indonesian Basketball National Team Player Derrick Michael almost fainted before meeting the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday (13/6).

Derrick had to be carried out of the front yard of the Merdeka Palace because he staggered while attending an event to meet with President Joko Widodo.

Seeing Derrick’s condition not being fit, two members of the Presidential Security Force immediately rushed to take the basketball player out of the yard to rest.

Met after the event, Derrick said that he felt dizzy and his body was not fit. He admitted that he had not attended events in the courtyard like a ceremony for a long time.

“I didn’t know why, it’s been a long time since the ceremony. It’s been preparation since morning, it’s ready, but the body is not ready, so I’m dizzy,” said Derrick.

Derrick was supposed to be one of the athlete representatives who received the athlete bonus symbol from the President. He said he regretted not being able to meet closely with the President.

However, he thanked President Jokowi and the government for their support.

“And we are certainly proud, Indonesia can bring the medal home,” he said.

Derrick promised that the appreciation given by the President would be a motivation to give the best achievements for Indonesia in future events.
