Writers Boyan Biolchev and Vladimir Zarev are among the names on the list of nominees for academics. It includes doctors Grigor Gorchev, honorary rector of the Medical University – Pleven, and a pioneer of robotic surgery in gynecology and oncogynecology, as well as Nikolay Petrov – former Minister of Health and former head of the Military Hospital.
Also nominated are the historian Ivan Ilchev, the publisher Ivan Granitski, as well as the caretaker Minister of Education and Science – the chemist Nikolay Denkov.
The list of 118 names of prominent scientists in various fields of science and art, candidates for academics and corresponding members will be published today on the website of BAS. The composer Georgi Kostov, former Minister of Culture and former rector of the National Academy of Music, and the director Plamen Markov have also been nominated for academics in the field of Art.
The corresponding members of the pandemic are Gen. Ventsislav Mutafchiiski, head of the National Operational Headquarters for the battle with COVID-19 and head of the Military Medical Academy, and mathematician Nikolay Vitanov, who has been making mathematical models of the spread of the infection for 1 year. The writer Georgi Gospodinov, winner of European and world awards for literature, has also been nominated as a corresponding member.
The competition was announced on May 17. The proposals were to be made within a month, and the selection of academics and corresponding members will take place in October.
According to the rules, professors and doctors of sciences can participate in the competition. Candidates for academics must be corresponding members of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and specialists who have not reached the age of 65 by the date of announcing the competition may apply for corresponding members. Prominent cultural and artistic figures are selected in the field of arts.
