Bārtulis started this season in the Optibet Premier League, representing the Mogo / LSPA team, which stood out in 14 games with three goals and eight assists.

The team manager Gregor Baumgartner, in a conversation with the Black Wings press service, highlighted Bartulis’ experience in the Continental Hockey League (KHL) and pointed out that the defender’s team performance required stability.

Goalkeeper Kristers Gudlevskis (Fillach EC VSV) and Nikita Jevpalov (Dornbirn “Bulldogs”) are also playing in the Austrian Championship this season.

The Black Wings have scored 11 points in 16 games this season and are in last place among 11 clubs.

Bārtulis went for the first time as a legionnaire in the 2003/04 season, when he joined the Russian CSKA team in Moscow after the force. The defender later went to North America, where he reached the American Hockey League (AHL) and also the National Hockey League (NHL) from the junior league.

In 2005, with the total number 91, Bārtule was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers, in whose ranks he played 66 games, with a goal and eight assists.

In the 2012/13 season, he joined the KHL Donetsk team in Donetsk, where he spent two seasons, but later represented Astana’s Baris (now Nursultan’s Baris). This was followed by three seasons in Vladivostok “Admiral” (KHL no longer plays) and half-season in Ufa “Salavat Julayev”.

He has also represented the Beijing Red Star and Riga Dinamo teams at the KHL Championship.

In total, the KHL defender has played 330 regular championship games, with 19 goals and 53 assists. He also scored 1 + 5 in 33 “play-off” matches.

During his career, Bārtulis participated in the Latvian national team in three world championships and two Olympic Games, as well as was an assistant captain of the national team.
