Bari, on the future of the hospital in Fiera “sparks” between Rector and Dean of Medicine

There is a controversy between the rector of the Aldo Moro University of Bari, Stefano Bronzini, and the president of the Loreto Gesualdo School of Medicine over the latter’s proposal to allocate, at the end of the pandemic, the Covid hospital set up in the Fiera del Levante in Bari, for health training. Gesualdo’s proposal was announced yesterday in a press conference with the general director of the Giovanni Migliore Polyclinic.

In a long note sent to the members of the School of Medicine, the rector explains that he was informed the day before the press conference, in which he did not participate, and that he “expressed concern” about the initiative.

“I would like to clarify – says Bronzini – that the positions expressed by Professor Gesualdo are not attributable to institutional decisions that can be adopted exclusively by the Rector, the Academic Senate and the Board of Directors” of the University of Bari, “and for what I know – he adds -, they were in no way shared by most of the colleagues of the School of Medicine ».

“To date – continues the rector – I have not received any official information regarding the movements of colleagues, employees of the University at the premises of the Fair. It follows that any agreement between individual colleagues, University staff, and the general management “del Policlinico” cannot be considered effective without having been previously shared and approved by the rector, in his capacity as employer of the university staff “.

For these reasons, in conclusion of the letter, Bronzini invites the members of the School of Medicine “to a discussion on the choices to be made in the near future”, which will be held remotely on April 7th.
