JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Bareskrim Polri arrested social media activist Palti Hutabarat in the Jagakarsa area, South Jakarta after receiving two police reports regarding the spread of fake news (hoaxes) through his social media.
The fake news he spread was related to recordings of conversations allegedly made by Forkopimda in Baru Bara Regency, North Sumatra, who participated in the winning of presidential candidate number 2, Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka in the 2024 presidential election.
Karopenmas of the National Police Headquarters, Brigadier General Pol Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, said that one report was submitted by the reporter at the North Sumatra Regional Police and the second report at the Police Criminal Investigation Unit.
“We convey that it is true that PH’s brother has been arrested, but we need to explain that the basis for this series of actions were two police reports that were reported,” said Trunoyudo at the Police Criminal Investigation Unit, South Jakarta, Friday (19/1/2024).

He said that the report was related to an alleged criminal incident by Palti Hutabarat which allegedly violated the provisions of Law Number 1 of 2024 concerning the Second Amendment to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions.
Likewise, there are allegations of criminal acts in Law Number 1 of 1946.
The social media activist was arrested today at around 03.44 WIB in the morning.
“Arrested on Jalan Swadaya, Tanjung Barat Village, Jagakarsa District, South Jakarta,” said Trunoyudo.

Palti himself has been named a suspect and charged under article 48 paragraph 1 in conjunction with article 32 paragraph 2 and/or article 51 paragraph 1 in conjunction with article 35 and/or article 45 paragraph 4 in conjunction with article 27a Law 11/2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions.
Then, Law Number 1 of 1946, namely article 14 paragraph 1 and 14 paragraph 2 and/or article 15 of Law 1/1946.
“There is a penalty of 8 years, 9 years, and 12 years,” he explained.
Previously it was reported that the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) of North Sumatra (Sumut) stated that the voice recording which was allegedly directed at selecting one of the presidential candidate pairs was not carried out by Batubara Regency officials.
“The results of Bawaslu Batubara’s investigation by asking for clarification from a number of Batubara Regency officials concluded that there were no similarities in the voices of Batubara Regency officials in the voice recording,” said the Coordinator of the Public Relations Division, North Sumatra Bawaslu Information Data, Saut Boangmanalu, in Medan, Tuesday (16/1/ 2024).
Saut Boangmanalu explained that a number of Batubara Regency officials who were suspected of being in the voice recording had come to the Batubara Bawaslu office for questioning.
Bawaslu is also said to have directly confirmed the match of the votes. “In Bawaslu Batubara’s analysis and their studies, there was no similarity with the voices of the officials, which were included in the audio stickers. So, no similarities were found at all,” said Saut.
However, Bawaslu will continue to trace the source of the recording.
Until now, it is still impossible to confirm the authenticity or motive of the voice recording before the people in the voice recording are questioned.
