Barcelona will invest 26 million of the Neighborhood Plan in Sant Andreu and Sant Martí

  • The museumization of the Cases Barates del Bon Pastor is among the main actions

  • The city council proposes to export the initiative to the metropolitan area and contributes 85 million

The finally, museization of the Cheap Houses of Good Shepherd, the one also long claimed and already presented conversion into multidisciplinary equipment of the old Pere IV Cinema in Besòs i Maresme; in addition to the necessary creation of a school institute in Trinitat Vella are three of the main performances of the Neighborhood Plan in the districts of Sant Andreu and Sant Martí. In total, an investment of 26.6 million euros (13.6 in the first and 13 in the second) which will be added to those already presented by Nou Barris, Horta-Guinardó, Ciutat Vella and Sants-Montjuïc, and which together constitute the 150 million allocated in the current mandate to the Pla de Barris, the set of actions with which the city council fights inequality and social emergency.

There are three initiatives, the most outstanding, but there will be many more, such as the remodeling of the Santander bridge and the surroundings of Via Trajana in La Verneda i La Pau or the rehabilitation of the premises of the Passadís de Trinitat Vella entities. Total, 58 projects from the outset – from the outset, the number can grow, as it happened in the first edition of the Pla de Barris in the previous term – focused on education, health, public space, economic promotion, the social sphere and the gender perspective .

I said, in Sant Andreu the star will be the Museum space de les Cases Barates de Bon Pastor, whose works are expected to begin in 2022 and end in 2023 with a budget of 2.3 million euros and the collaboration of Muhba (Museu d’Història de Barcelona). The initiative has been underway for years, although initially it was planned to keep only a couple of houses and now there will be 16 that will remain standing, those that make up the block located between the streets of Barnola, Tàrrega, Bellmunt and Claramun. The aim is to preserve the memory of the place, a working-class and popular neighborhood built in 1929 by the city council to house, in 784 small (40 square meters) ground-floor houses, the immigration that arrived, above all, as a result of the International Exhibition.

In the same district but in Trinitat Vella they will be invested 4.2 million euros in the Rec Comtal school institute, educational equipment that arises from the desire to unify the three public centers in the neighborhood (the Comas i Solà institute and the Ramon Berenguer III and Ramon y Cajal schools) with the aim of fighting against school dropouts in the transition from primary to secondary . The adaptation will be done in three phases (three years) and it will end with the current building of the institute, in Via Bàrcino, completely remodeled. In Sant Martí the flag project is the demolition of the old Pere IV cinema in Besòs and Maresme and the construction of a building that will house the new facilities for the CAP Besòs (which will double the surface of the current one), the Ramon d’Alòs-Moner library and an auditorium. The investment of the project amounts to 15 million euros (nine contributed by the city council and six, by the Ministry of Health of the Generalitat). The forecast is for the works to start in 2022 and finish in September 2024.

So far the Pla de Barris of the town hall, but the council has more ambitions. The intention is export the initiative to the metropolitan area. “Inequality has an increasingly metropolitan component, it happens in Barcelona and in all cities. What we are saying is that if, for example, we act on the right bank of the Besòs, it makes no sense not to do it on the other bank of the river. The problems are the same ”, according to Jordi Martí, Councilor for the Presidency. So the town hall has proposed to the AMB (Barcelona Metropolitan Area) to allocate 85 million that it must contribute in one of the agreements to be signed shortly to promote said proposal.
