The Councilor for Mobility and President of Metropolitan Transport of Barcelona, Rosa Alarcón, has announced that this week they have installed ten machines mask sales and hydroalcoholic gel in the metro network to reinforce passenger safety.

At a press conference, Alarcón expressed his satisfaction that the hygiene and distancing rules that have been in force since last Monday in phase 0 of de-escalation are being generally met in the metro and bus networks.

Last week 225,000 masks were distributed free of charge at Barcelona metro stations and connection points

Alarcón has explained that TMB This compliance has been verified with information obtained from a sample of metro stations, where 96% of users entered the network with the mask on, as established by the order of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda. Alarcón has pointed out that with the installation of these vending machines in seven metro stations, users will have “an easy and accessible point” to purchase masks and hydrogel at “official prices”.

Last week 225,000 masks were distributed free of charge at Barcelona metro stations and connection points and, since last week, information on the mandatory use of them has increased. Regarding the TMB buses, Alarcón explained that the use of the masks is also widespread and that they advance in the separation of the driving compartment through transparent polycarbonate screens, to minimize the risk of contagion.

These elements will be installed in the 1,140 vehicles of the entire TMB bus fleet starting in June and will complement the preventive measures adopted so far: entry through the second door, separation of passage, no sale or exchanges on board. Screens are also incorporated in 758 AMB buses, which are operated by indirect management companies.
