Barcelona: only 50 of the 400 hotels will open in July | Hotel News, rss1

The forecast in Barcelona is that in September only 30% of the more than 400 hotels in the city are open, according to La Vanguardia. The sector gives up around 70% of this year’s turnover, without conferences, without business travelers and without international tourism (Hotels: only a third would open this summer in Spain).

The Gremi d’Hotels foresees a staggered opening of the hotels, with fifty openings in July – including those of the Hotel Arts and the W Barcelona -, a dozen in August and fifty more in September, reaching 182 open hotels, a 33% of the total.

“For now we are seeing more reservation cancellations than new additions, in part because there are no clear messages. We have gone from establishing a quarantine to opening the borders in July, and to this we must add that people pay a lot of respect to travel, “says Manel Casals, general director of the Gremi d’Hotels in Barcelona.

With 85% of foreign clients, summer is harder in the city than on the coast, which aims to seduce the national and local public. On the Costa Daurada, “we have taken a first step that will help us improve protocols for the rest of the openings,” says Juan Alcubilla, corporate general manager of Best Hotels. This chain plans to open, until July 3, 15 of its 34 establishments (five on the Costa Daurada, two in Barcelona, three in Almería and four on the Andalusian coast).

Catalonia will have eleven of the 27 establishments it has in Barcelona open this Monday. “We are not going to earn money and the month of June is going to be very hard, but we have decided to take a step forward because we understand that we have to give encouragement to the workers and because we have to prepare and be ready for when, from 1 July, open the borders ”, maintains Félix Navas, General Director of Catalonia.
