Pandemic profiteer Sywert van Lienden was able to close his dubious face mask deal with the government, among other things, thanks to the mediation of Barbara Baarsma of Rabobank. She arranged a loan of 115 million euros to finance the deal if necessary, meldt Follow The Money.

Ultimately, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport decided to finance the purchase of the mouth caps itself. However, Rabobank’s support was an asset that Van Lienden used in his discussions with the ministry. Van Lienden emailed the ministry that he was being helped by ‘trusted Dutch champions from the business world’.

An email exchange at the time shows that a Rabobank employee already had doubts about the possible profiteering that Van Lienden and his accomplices Bernd Damme and Camille van Gestel could make. Damme reassured the banker: “We want to use the capital that is (possibly) released for the foundation (charity).”

In reality, the profit disappeared into the pockets of Van Lienden, Damme and Van Gestel. The Public Prosecution Service is now investigating the lies of the trio. End of last month the FIOD picked up the three.

Van Lienden and Baarsma had known each other for years, partly because they both regularly appeared as guests of De Wereld Draait Door. During the pandemic, Baarsma was also involved in Herstel NL. The initiators[MR1] of this club stated that the lockdowns could be lifted, if only we were prepared to help 4 million vulnerable Dutch people to be locked up for months† Robin Fransman, captain of Herstel NL, died of corona at the end of last year.

Baarsma does not want to discuss her involvement in Van Lienden’s dubious mouth cap deal with Follow The Money. At first she even denied that involvement. Rabobank, which increases the chance of a new zoonosis developing by lending to intensive livestock farming, will not say anything either.
