Banksy stolen from Bataclan and found in Italy, nine alleged thieves arrested – La Stampa

PARIS. A Parisian turn on the theft of Banksy’s precious graffiti, the “Mourning Girl” designed on an emergency door of the Bataclan and dedicated to the 90 victims of the 2015 terrorist attack.

The opera, stolen a year ago from the Paris theater, (4 years before the theater of the bloody attack) and hidden for almost six months in Sant’Omero (Teramo) in a cottage along a passageway where, according to investigative hypotheses , the visits of any buyers, including Arabs, had to take place and the sale was completed with the transfer then to the buyer’s country. In recent days, the French police arrested nine Maghrebi citizens who, according to the accusation, were somehow connected to the compatriot who brought the work to Italy last year, leaving it in custody to the entrepreneur of Tortoreto (Teramo), owner of a B&B that in recent weeks, in fact, he moved it to the cottage in Sant’Omero, where it was found by the Carabinieri of Alba Adriatica (Teramo) together with the French police.

The Banksy dedicated to the victims of Bataclan was found: stolen from the Parisian club it had ended up in Italy

On arrests, the French authorities maintain maximum confidentiality. The Italian line, carried out by the District Anti-Mafia and Counter-Terrorism Directorate of L’Aquila on the indication of the same judiciary from beyond the Alps, is practically closed with the report in the state of freedom for receiving stolen goods also from a mediator, a 60 year old from Giulianova (Teramo), in addition to the same owner of the B&B all already listened to by the judicial authority.

The entrepreneur from Teramo defended himself by claiming that he did not know the value of the work and that he limited himself to making a courtesy to the Maghrebi who often stayed in his structure leaving objects in custody, this is his thesis. However, investigators are convinced that the cottage chosen to conceal the work was not chosen by chance. It was probably there waiting to be viewed by a collector or art dealer. The terrorist track is currently excluded. The investigations were entrusted to the Cultural Heritage Protection Unit of Ancona.
