Before the first banknotes manufactured by the Bank of Mexico (Banxico), the country’s central bank issued a group of banknotes, the so-called AA family, still manufactured by the American Bank Note Company of New York.

The AA family banknotes are currently demonetized, which means that are no longer valid for transactions for lacking liberatory power; however, they are still sought after by collectors, which means they may have value in that market.

One of those banknotes from Banxico, the one with the denomination of 10 thousand pesos, which would currently be equivalent to 10 pesos, is sold on platforms such as Mercado Libre in psturdy ranging from 1,600 to almost 6,000 pesos, depending on its state of conservation and serial number.

The front of the note shows Matías Romero, a politician and diplomat from Oaxaca who served as Secretary of the Treasury during the Benito Juárez and Porfirio Díaz governments. He was also the Mexican ambassador to the United States and intervened in the Boundary Agreement between Mexico and Guatemala.

For its part, the reverse has a vignette that represents the National Palace of Mexico City after the third floor was added during the administration of President Plutarco Elías Calles.
