Bahn: Private company plans night train Salzburg-Sylt

From July 4th, a night train will run between Salzburg and Sylt. That will happen twice a week Hamburg railway company RDC by September, the Süddeutsche Zeitung reports that it will be running its own trains in both directions as the “Alpen-Sylt-Nachtexpress”. The route runs via Prien am Chiemsee, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Husum – and thus connects several major cities with holiday regions in southern and northern Germany. RDC also operates the DB Autozug to Sylt.

Hardly any night trains of the German

Rail travelers can currently choose between several IC connections to Sylt: There are trains to Sylt from Dresden (via Berlin), Frankfurt, Cologne (via Bremen) and Karlsruhe (via Frankfurt and Hanover). From the island you can get to Dresden (via Berlin), Stuttgart (via Frankfurt, Cologne and Bremen), Frankfurt (via Cologne and Bremen) and Karlsruhe (via Frankfurt and Hanover).

Deutsche Bahn had thinned out its night train network in Germany a few years ago. Three years ago, the Austrian Federal Railroad (ÖBB) took over the loss-making DB night train business. The ÖBB nightjet operation is to be gradually expanded by 2026. (dpa)
