Bahlil: Individuals Who Disagree with DME and Electric Cars, I Ask You to Move

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Minister of Investment Bahlil Lahadalia asked businessmen, officials, and state-owned enterprises who did not agree with Indonesia’s economic transformation plan, namely downstreaming, to step aside.

“To anyone, whether it’s businessmen or officials, or individuals in SOEs who don’t agree with this idea of economic transformation, I ask you to step aside because the Indonesian state must move forward,” Bahlil said at a press conference, Wednesday, December 1, 2021.

Bahlil said two downstream plans that the government will carry out are to build a Dimethyl Ether or DME ecosystem as a substitute for LPG, as well as an electric vehicle ecosystem.

Bahlil said that recently the government is trying to attract investment to realize the various downstream plans. For example, with a memorandum of understanding of around US$ 15 billion with Airproduct some time ago to build downstream coal and gas.

“Do you know that we are now importing gas? LPG every year 5.5-6 million tons,” said Bahlil.

From the LPG alone, the government has disbursed at least nearly Rp 60-70 trillion. For this reason, he said the downstreaming of low-calorie coal into DME is important.
