Social media was enlivened with claims Taliban who has special forces in Afghanistan. It is Badri 313, which the Taliban showcased via social media as their special forces. The Badri 313 ‘elite squad’ is also claimed to be equivalent to the United States army.
Launching from AFP, the special forces wore equipment similar to the United States troops. Of course it was only the stripes that distinguished the soldiers from the US troops.
These troops no longer carry rifles left by the Soviet Union AK-47. Taliban special forces Badri 313 now showing the US-made M4 rifle. Some of them also wore US-made equipment such as vision aids in the dark, goggles, sophisticated rifle scopes, combat helmets, and bulletproof vests.
The look is far different from the regular Taliban militiamen who usually wear turbans on their heads and traditional men’s clothing in the mountains of Afghanistan.
Showing off the Badri 313 troops on social media was also said to be part of the Taliban’s propaganda.
US military observer Matt Henman assessed that the Taliban who returned to control Afghanistan wanted to give the impression that they had been equipped with very sophisticated equipment and weapons.
“Badri 313 seems to want to represent the best trained and equipped forces within the Taliban. However as we can expect that something is being sensationalized in the propaganda.” Henman told AFP.
One observer with the pseudonym Caliber Oscure assessed that the ability of the special forces of the Taliban still cannot be compared to elite troops from western countries, even India and Pakistan. However, they are thought to have more effective combat capabilities than regular Taliban forces.
“They are also more than the standard of the Afghan national forces,” he said.
Badri is also said to have received training from the Haqqani network, the Taliban’s most brutal and feared main supporter. Located in eastern Afghanistan, members of the Haqqani network have begun to appear frequently in recent times.
Still reported by AFP, Badri 313 is named after the events of the great war 1,400s last year. The war between the Muslims who followed the Prophet Muhammad and the non-Muslims of Quraish was called the Battle of Badr (Badri).
