Baden-Württemberg: car crashes into coach: one dead and 13 injured

On Friday evening, a driver in the Upper Black Forest got into the oncoming lane and collided with a coach. The cause of the accident is still unclear.

In a serious traffic accident in the Black Forest, a driver died after his car crashed into a coach.

The passenger of the 50-year-old was critically injured and later flown to a clinic by rescue helicopter, like them police reported. In addition, 12 of the 48 bus passengers suffered such serious injuries in the accident on Friday evening that they had to be taken to the hospital.

The collision occurred on a country road near Sankt Märgen (Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district) after the car had hit the oncoming lane in a right-hand bend for reasons that are still unclear. There it crashed into the oncoming bus, which was used as a rail replacement service for the closed Höllentalbahn. A large contingent of rescue workers looked after the bus occupants and other road users who were stuck in traffic for a long time as a result of the accident.

The east-west connection leading through the Höllental in the southern Black Forest has been closed to road and rail traffic since the beginning of the week. The triggers were two huge boulders that were blown up on Friday. Travelers and commuters can only reach their destination by bus, taking detours. Traffic had to be temporarily diverted via Sankt Märgen because another diversion route was closed due to a crane accident. The police in Freiburg initially had no information on Saturday as to when the federal road 31 through the Höllental could be reopened.
