Some 70 people and more than 10 boats in difficulty were rescued by the lake’s rescuers.

“One hundred and twenty minutes of rare intensity.” It is with these words that on Friday morning the Geneva cantonal police described the bad weather of the day before. Thursday evening, between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., a strong storm swept through the township, causing extensive damage in its path. Lake Geneva has not been spared.
In total, 70 people and more than ten boats in difficulty required the intervention of police officers from the navigation brigade and the International Society for the Rescue of Léman (SISL). The latter deployed at least 8 boats for the operation.
Three rental boats and their occupants found themselves in difficulty in the inclement weather and had to be rescued. The Navigation Police Brigade (BNAV) also had to intervene to help the 45 passengers of a Seagull stuck in the middle of the harbor, as well as kayakers and occupants of sailboats. No injuries are nevertheless to be deplored, indicates the cantonal police in a press release.
The BNAV also had to take charge of several drifting boats, without passengers.
