Frankfurt am Main – Geez! Sad bad news for mare Jenny. The horse, known far beyond Frankfurt, is ill.

The 26-year-old horse from the Fechenheim district was diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of the year, owner Werner Weischedel announced on Tuesday. Several media had previously reported about it.
For about 15 years, Weischedel has been letting his Arabian mare walk alone through Fechenheim and along the banks of the Main every day. The white animal is well known to residents and the police.
Weischedel now drives his mare to a veterinary clinic in Hanover every two weeks to treat the tumors.

There, Jenny is taking part in a study testing a drug from the United States that has not yet been approved.
The study directors would not have taken on any more horses, said Weischedel. Jenny made it into the study thanks to her popularity. “We hope that the proliferation will now come to a halt,” he said.

Despite illness, Jenny continues to wander alone through the city. “She carries on as before.”
