Bad news for Antwerp: hand fracture and Champions Playoffs over for Jean Butez

“Jean Butez fractured his hand on Saturday during the match against Anderlecht following a duel with a Mauve et Blanc player. The operation was carried out on Sunday at AZ Monica in Deurne. Our goalkeeper started his revalidation and will no longer play this season”, wrote the reigning champions on X (formerly Twitter).

Antwerp were beaten 1-0 at Anderlecht on Saturday for the opening match of the Jupiler Pro League Champions Playoffs. Number 1 now occupies 4th place with 26 points after the 1-1 split between Club Bruges, 3rd with 27 points, at Cercle Bruges on Monday. Antwerp will also play the final of the Belgian Cup against Union Saint-Gilloise on May 9.
