Back to the future: two DeLoreans discovered that were abandoned in a shed for 40 years

It seems incredible that such forgetfulness occurs but every now and then impressive vehicles that were abandoned in hidden places.

And in this news is not one but two copies of the DeLorean DMC-12, a car that promised to be a out of series and who became famous in the saga of Back to the Future.

This time the characteristics of the find is more surprising, since it is a question of specimens that have been used very little since their odometers show low mileage.

These are two units with correlative chassis numbers that have just been discovered in an old shed after spending a long time in oblivion, as published Car and Driver.

The good news about this incredible neglect is that the two models appear very well preserved despite having been still for so long.

This is probably why the two copies found will not take long to find new owners due to the advertised price: $ 50,000 for both of us.

The DMC-12 are located in Lake Elsinore, California (United States), where they have remained since their original owner acquired them in 1981.

During all this time they have barely circulated and is that their odometers register extremely low mileage, so much that one of them can be considered as just out of the dealership.

The unit in question only marks only 14 miles driven (22.5 kilometers) while the other registers a somewhat higher number but which is still ridiculous: 1,623 miles (2,612 kilometers).

Both cars are reportedly equipped with manual gearboxes, making them about 2 seconds faster to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h than the DMC-12s equipped with an automatic gearbox.

These models are preceded by a particular story during their development and the eventful life of their creator, John DeLorean, who lived as a rockstar and was even involved in confusing causes of drug trafficking and fraud.

The DMC-12 was a breakthrough vehicle with that particular gull-wing door opening. Not in vain that model was chosen to represent a time machine in the film Back to the Future.

DeLorean had hired Colin Chapman, founder of Lotus, to give final shape to the chassis and suspension, and the Italian bodybuilder Giorgetto GiugiarioTo design the styling of the car, he was going to use polished stainless steel for its body.

But in the case of these two units, they also add the particularity of having correlative chassis numbers, something very rare to see. Which is why it wouldn’t be surprising if they show up on a big auction house with a much higher asking price within a few months.

In the announcement of Facebook Marketplace both models are sold as a set so it will not be possible to purchase them separately. One of them appears to be in better condition than the other but overall, from what the images show, both have been fairly well preserved.
