Baarn agrees to cutting trees and housing at Soestdijk Palace

Queen Juliana and Prince Bernhard lived in Soestdijk Palace from 1937 until their death in 2004. Three of the four daughters of the royal couple were born there. In 2017, the MeyerBergman Heritage Group bought the estate to realize a hotel, catering and housing, among other things.

With the sale of apartments says the real estate company wants to finance the renovation of the palace. The palace is being redesigned as an events center.

Forest plot demolished

Only the Baarnsche Independent Party (BOP) is against the plan, mainly because of the tree cutting. “As if these are three woody villas that are being built in the Borrebos. The entire forest plot is being demolished,” says group chairman Kees Koudstaal.

Group chairperson Rik van Hardeveld of the CDA contested that. “It is suggested that a whole forest is cut down for housing. But it is only one hectare and there is a lot of green in return.”

The preliminary draft of the zoning plan will be available for inspection for six weeks from mid-August, reports RTV Utrecht. Anyone can respond to the plan during this period.
