Azerbaijani army enters the second Nagorno – Karabakh district / Article / LSM.lv

Aliyev has promised to rebuild the infrastructure of the regions regained by Baku and to allow the return of Azerbaijani refugees who left Nagorno-Karabakh in the 1990s war after Armenians took control.

But now ethnic Armenians are concerned about their safety in places that have now become border villages.

“The general of Azerbaijan told me, ‘The land is yours, go and work, no one is bothering you.’ .

Many local Armenians now see Russian peacekeepers as a guarantor of security.

“There is always danger. The war is only stopped, but not over. How can I sleep peacefully when the enemy is only 200-300 meters away? Shouldn’t there be a neutral zone?”

Intense fighting in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resumed in late September, claiming hundreds of lives over several weeks. Nagorno-Karabakh is recognized by the international community as part of Azerbaijan.

CONTEXT:
