The Azerbaijani military carried out a retaliatory operation in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Armenian Foreign Ministry believes that the troops of the neighboring country “undertook aggression in the zone of responsibility of Russian peacekeepers.”

The Azerbaijani army, during the operation Retribution, took control of a number of heights in Karabakh and destroyed several combat positions of the Armenian armed formations. About it reported at the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan on Wednesday, August 3.

“Members of illegal Armenian armed formations on the territory of Azerbaijan, where the Russian peacekeeping contingent is temporarily stationed, grossly violating the provisions of the statement of November 10, 2020, on August 3, carried out a terrorist-sabotage operation against units of the Azerbaijani Army. As a result, our serviceman Kazimov Anar Rustam oglu died,” – says the message of the military department.

As a result of the retaliatory operation Retribution, carried out by units of the Azerbaijani army, the Girkhgyz height, as well as the Sarybaba height and other important heights along the Karabakh ridge of the Lesser Caucasus, were taken under control, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said.

The Ministry of Defense noted that “the Republic of Azerbaijan has repeatedly stated that the presence of the armed forces of Armenia and illegal Armenian armed formations in the territories of Azerbaijan, where Russian peacekeepers are temporarily stationed, contrary to the tripartite statement, is a source of danger.”

At the Armenian Foreign Ministry, in turn declaredthat they consider unacceptable attempts by Baku to change the legal regime of the Lachin corridor unilaterally.

“The route of the Lachin corridor can only be changed in accordance with the plan approved by the signatories of the trilateral statement,” the Armenian Foreign Ministry said in a statement released by the press service on Wednesday.

At the same time, there is still no such plan approved in a trilateral format.

The Armenian Foreign Ministry claims that the Azerbaijani troops “undertook aggression in the zone of responsibility of Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh.”

They also added that two servicemen of the unrecognized republic were killed, 14 were injured as a result of shelling by the armed forces of Azerbaijan.

It should be noted that the media report that the equipment of the Iranian army is being moved closer to the border with Azerbaijan against the backdrop of growing tensions in Nagorno-Karabakh.
