Awkwafina becomes a subway announcer in New York

The American rapper, presenter and actress Nora Lum, known as Awkwafina, has become a subway announcer in New York. For a week, her voice will be heard on Line 7, which connects the boroughs of Queens and Manhattan, announced the New York City Transport Company MTA.

According to MTA spokeswoman Sarah Meyer, it is the first time that a well-known personality has taken over the announcements. “We are looking for new and different ways to raise urgently needed money, while surprising and delighting our customers at the same time.”

The Awkwafina announcements are part of an advertising campaign for the actress’ new series, “Nora from Queens”. Awkwafina grew up in Queens, New York. She became famous with roles in Hollywood films such as “Ocean’s 8” and “Crazy Rich”. For her role in “The Farewell” she was the first Asian-American actress to win a Golden Globe.
