Márquez started Sunday’s race from third position, yet he quickly managed to get to the front. In the fifth lap, however, he avoided falling and got off the track. He returned from the duck in sixteenth place and started an amazing chase, during which he worked his way up to third position.
But four rounds before the end came to an end. Very painful end. The eight-time world champion had a heavy “highsider” and could not continue after falling at a speed of 150 km / h. The home rider left the circuit on a stretcher. “Sometimes things don’t turn out the way one would expect, but the most important thing is to come back and continue. I have surgery now, but I promise I’ll be back as soon as possible and even stronger,” Márquez said on Twitter.
Subsequent examinations showed that Márquez broke his right arm in the accident. “The MotoGP medical team has confirmed that there have been no serious head or chest injuries, but will remain for another 12 hours for observation,” said Marquez’s Repsol Honda team.

On Monday, the world champion will move to Barcelona, where specialist Xavier Mir should operate on him the next day. “The time of treatment is not yet known,” Honda said.

Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix was the first race of the season for MotoGP riders, as only the Moto2 and Moto3 classes took place in Qatar before the coronavirus break in March.
