A council member for East Fishkill, a town up the Hudson River from New York City, advised local residents to avoid four out of five New York boroughs “due to crime,” noting a drastic increase in shootings and homicides.
“Reconsider the trip” in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens “Because of the crime” reads letter from city councilor Anil Beephan, released on Friday. Violent crime is “Widespread” in New York, he added, and “Armed criminals are known to target and attack individuals, both premeditated and random.”

Beephan attributed the 21% increase in homicides and 53% in shootings to criminal justice reforms – namely, the abolition of the statewide cash bond since January, leaving many repeat offenders out of jail – and the recent decision to dissolve the NYPD’s undercover crime unit.

Rather than an official notice from the city, the letter is Beephan’s personal notice to residents visiting the city, local news outlet News 12 Westchester noted. East Fishkill is a city of about 30,000 people, about 60 miles (100 km) north of Manhattan.
In addition to disbanding the Crime Unit, de Blasio cut the NYPD’s budget by $ 1 billion and painted a giant street mural “Black Lives Matter” on a section of Fifth Avenue across from Trump Tower, to attract the favors of activists who ask him “Fund the police.”
“We now have fewer people in our prisons than [at] at any time since WWII and we are safer for that,“He said earlier this week.
The East Fishkill city councilor clearly disagrees, and apparently many New Yorkers do too. While it is difficult to get the exact number of people who have left the city, whether due to the Covid-19 pandemic, protests turned into riots, or the peak of crime, rents in Manhattan are said to have decreased for the first time since 2010.
People and businesses LEAVE. Not only talk about it, they do it.
The stores have carpeted windows and are empty. A huge percentage of businesses don’t come back,
NYC will not recover. It’s too far. I saw it. It’s bad. https://t.co/tgpWdL8cPZ– CompoundBoss (@CompoundBoss) 17 juillet 2020
