Beach volleyball players Mārtiņš Pļaviņš / Edgars Točs won gold in Ventspils during the Latvian championship stage on Sunday, defeating Aleksandrs Samoilovs / Jānis Šmēdiņš 2-1 (21:17, 16:21, 15:13).

Although the burden of responsibility is much lower for Samoilov / Šmēdiņš, who was only slightly short of the Olympic road sign, Pļaviņš / Točs started the first set more successfully, for whom the main start of the season will definitely be in Tokyo. Victory in the first set for Pļaviņš / Točs with 21:17.

The Samoilov / Šmēdiņš duo started the second set more successfully. The victory in the exciting set was won by Aleksandrs and Jānis with 21:16, therefore the third set was needed to determine the winner.

The final set started very exciting, point to point. However, at the end of the set, the initiative already belonged to the Tokyo Olympians, thus also the victory in the decisive set with 15:13.

The winners admitted that they are on the right track and something is starting to work. Although both have had ten trainings this week, and six games in the last few days – this has been one of the hardest weeks this year.

In preparation for the start of the Olympic start, the duo will continue in Switzerland, holding a 4 * tournament in Gstaad, and will soon travel to Tokyo.

Samoilovs / Šmēdiņš defeated his compatriots Artūrs Ronkevičs / Artis Bedritis 2-0 (21:14, 21:17) in the semi-finals.

Pļaviņš / Točs, on the other hand, was 2-0 (21:11, 21:18) superior to the Lithuanian duo Patriks Stankevičs / Audri Knašs.
