Avalanche, Lakselvbukt | Two skiers taken by avalanche

Two skiers were taken by an avalanche on Lakselvtindan in Lakselvbukt on Friday.

The landslide occurred earlier in the day on Friday, and it took a while before the skiers contacted the emergency services.

– They said that they had triggered a landslide earlier in the day, and that one of them had back pain as a result. The pain was so great that they could not go back on skis, says rescue leader Øyvind Aadde at the Main Rescue Center North Norway.

The ambulance helicopter was sent out to assist, in addition to several volunteers from Norwegian People’s Aid.

– Ground crews were sent as back-up. We were recently notified that the two skiers have been transported to UNN by helicopter. The rest of the crews are returning to Tromsø now, says Aadde to Nordlys at 17.00.
