Avalanche exit in the Kitzbüheler Alpen: two people rescued

Kirchberg – A mountain guide (35) and his guest from Germany (52) were swept away by an avalanche in the Kitzbüheler Alpen and seriously injured. The two winter sports enthusiasts managed to deploy their avalanche airbags in good time, so they were not buried in the snow, the police inspector Kitzbühel informed

On the ascent, the two are waiting to be overtaken by two other tourers from Austria (42 and 38 years old). While these two climbed on skis, the 35-year-old and the German guest took off their skis and trudged up the channel on foot. Suddenly a snow board came off at an altitude of 2300 meters. The mountain guide and his guest were caught in the avalanche and pulled 250 meters deep. They were still able to deploy their avalanche airbags, but were still seriously injured. A team of 30 mountain rescuers, alpine police, search dogs, helicopter pilot and the Red Cross left after reports of the first victim being buried. In the course of the search, it turned out that even two people may have been swept away by the snow masses.

At around 3 p.m. there was an all-clear – the people sought could be rescued and taken to nearby hospitals. The 42-year-old and the 38-year-old were rescued unscathed from the snowboard crack by thawing. It has not yet been determined by whom the snow board was triggered and is the subject of further surveys.

According to the police, 31 mountain rescuers, five firefighters, alpine police officers and two avalanche dogs were deployed. (TT)
