Avalanche: 170 people to be rescued; 31 bodies recovered | National | Deshabhimani

Uttarakhand: 31 bodies found in Chamoli tragedy Thirty-four workers from Lakshmipur in Uttar Pradesh have been confirmed missing in Chamoli. Five people from Bengal are missing. About 170 people are yet to be found.

Rescue operations are continuing in Raini village. Workers removed the mud at the entrance to the trapped Tapovan tunnel. Thirty people trapped inside a tunnel in Chamoli have been rescued. Rescue work is continuing inside the tunnel that is part of the dam. The 12-foot-high, 2.5-kilometer-long tunnel was flooded by an avalanche. The rescue operation is being led by the Indo-Tibetan Border Security Force (ITBP), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Uttarakhand Police.

You can only move forward by clearing the tunnel, which is full of mud and dirt. Home Minister Amit Shah told the Lok Sabha that more machinery would be used for this purpose. Lok Sabha pays tributes to the deceased
