Soak up the sun again on your autumn holiday in 2021 before winter comes? Just in time for the start of the holiday, Greece, Italy and Spain are loosening the corona rules.

Hanover / Bremen – Off to the south: Another week, then the autumn holidays 2021 will also start in Bremen and Lower Saxony. Then the holiday fliers take off again from Hanover Airport or Bremen Airport to warmer climes. Particularly popular in autumn 2021: travel destinations on the Mediterranean. Because in time for the autumn vacation 2021, countries like Greece, Italy or Spain are loosening the corona restrictions.

Virus: Coronavirus, COVID-19
Pathogens: SARS-CoV-2
Occurrence: worldwide
First known case: 1st December 2019

When the days get shorter again in autumn 2021 and the clocks are switched to winter time at the end of October, then at the latest, many will want the warming rays of the summer sun back. According to the German Travel Association (DRV), bathing destinations in the Mediterranean are particularly popular with holidaymakers during the autumn holidays in 2021. Even with unvaccinated children, for example, an autumn vacation 2021 is possible without any problems. Even on Wangerooge, testing will no longer be mandatory from October 11, 2021.

The European vacation countries have already reacted accordingly and in the second year of the pandemic extended the season until the end of October or even into November. And the best thing: In many places, the Corona regulations fall, so that a holiday can be really relaxed and cozy.

Corona rules in the autumn vacation 2021: Italy lifts most of the restrictions for the autumn vacation 2021

The Italians have only just experienced the worst corona protests of all time. Thousands demonstrated in Rome against the “Green Pass” and have taken to the streets in the country in the past few days. There were violent clashes in the capital at the weekend, the police used tear gas, batons and water cannons. On Monday, October 11th, 2021, many of the remaining restrictions will be removed and normality will be restored.

For example, the distance rules no longer have to be observed. In the country’s museums, cinemas, theaters and concert halls, every last seat can be taken again. And in the football stadiums too, capacities can again be used up to 75 percent. Only discos and nightclubs still have to observe strict limits. In addition, the face masks only have to be worn indoors. The space restrictions in passenger traffic and the requirement to wear a mask outdoors have been a thing of the past several weeks.

In order to be able to enjoy all these advantages, however, in Italy you need a “Green Pass” – proof that you are protected against a Covid-19 infection, for example through recovery or vaccination. Or that you took a corona test and it was negative. The well-known QR code from Germany, which can also be used in the EU Corona app, is recognized in Italy. However, those who have not been vaccinated or recovered have to dig deep into their pockets in Italy: For corona tests in the holiday country, around 200 euros per month must be budgeted for the tests.

A registration must be completed before entering Italy. This can be done conveniently online via the Internet. Anyone who can present the EU certificate – i.e. can prove that they have been vaccinated or recovered – can even avoid the state quarantine and can lie down on the beach in Rimini.

Corona restrictions during the autumn holidays 2021: Greece gives vaccinated freedoms back

The Greeks are also loosening up and at least giving back a lot of the old freedoms to those who have been vaccinated. This even applies to the areas where the infection rate with the coronavirus is very high. Many of the restrictions have been lifted since Saturday, October 9, 2021.

The lockdowns in Thessaloniki, Larissa, Chalkidiki, Kilkis, Argolida, Kastoria, Imathia, Pieria, Pella, Kavala, Xanthi and Drama should soon be history. Then the night curfews and the music ban are no longer an issue.

Likewise, it is again allowed to shake the dance floor in bars and nightspots. However, and this is the limitation in this case, this only applies to those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered. But: It applies in the anyway Indoor catering and in other cultural establishments in Greece the principle of the 2G rule*. So only those who have been vaccinated or recovered come in.

If you want to travel to Greece, you only have to observe the 3G rule: You can only get in if you have been vaccinated or recovered, or who have a current negative Corona test. In addition, vacationers have to submit an electronic travel registration. This can can be filled out online here. The registration does not have to be submitted until entry, the previous 24-hour period does not apply.

Corona measures in autumn vacation 2021: Spain is loosening due to falling infections

Because the infection situation around the coronavirus in Spain relaxes at the beginning of the autumn holidays 2021, it is already easing in many holiday regions. In Madrid, for example, there are almost no restrictions at all. Both the night curfews and the visitor limits at public events are no longer applicable. However, the obligation to wear a mask remains indoors. Outside closed rooms, this has not been necessary in Madrid for a long time.

Since Friday, October 8th, 2021, the clubs and discos have been able to reopen after months of closings in the Balearic Islands. Can Pastilla, Palma and the other tourist strongholds are already preparing for an enormous onslaught and the beer king on Schinkenstrasse has also reopened its doors. The discotheque Megapark, on the other hand, does not want to reopen until the 2022 season in spring. Hopefully the last Corona holiday season will come to an end on the Playa with the last days of the autumn holiday 2021.

As in Greece, an electronic travel registration must be completed when entering the Kingdom of Spain. Everyone over the age of 12 must also provide evidence of whether they have been vaccinated or have recovered. If you can’t do that, you have to submit a negative PCR or antigen test.

Corona restrictions during the autumn holidays 2021: No restrictions in hotels in Croatia

In Croatia there are no longer any restrictions whatsoever for holidaymakers in hotels. In the interior areas of the restaurant, catering is allowed if there is enough space between the tables. However, alcohol may not be sold or served between midnight and 6:00 a.m. A mask is required in local public transport and in shops. If a minimum distance of 1.50 meters cannot be maintained outdoors, a mask must also be worn here.

If you want to enter Croatia, you have to note that you have to present certain documents. For someone who has been vaccinated or recovered, this is proof of their status. All others must have a negative corona test.

Corona measures in autumn vacation 2021: Turkey sticks to hard corona rules

Compared to the other European holiday countries, the Corona rules in Turkey are relatively strict. So practically everywhere you have to wear a mask: in squares, streets, markets, parks, in public transport, but also on the beach. There must be a minimum distance of three paces from other people across the country.

A so-called HES code is required for hotels, restaurants, shopping centers, bus and train journeys as well as flights within the country. Holidaymakers receive this when they enter Turkey if they have provided evidence of the 3G rule. Without this, entry is not allowed anyway. * Kreiszeitung.de and merkur.de are offers from IPPEN.MEDIA.
