Authorities: Attack at Church in Nice appears to be an act of terrorism | Abroad

According to Reuters news agency, one of the victims is a woman. She was beheaded, according to the French police.

The death toll after the attack can still rise. The French TV channel BFM now speaks of three fatalities.

The attack took place near the Notre-Dame church in Nice. The police arrested the perpetrator. According to local media, shots were fired.

According to Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi, it appears to be an act of terrorism. Estrosi, visited the site of the attack. “Everything points to a terrorist attack at the Notre-Dame basilica,” he also said on Twitter.

It is the second extreme violent incident in France in a short time. There, the beheading of teacher Samuel Paty in a Paris suburb earlier this month caused shocked reactions. The teacher had shown cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad during a lesson on freedom of speech. It is still unclear what the motive was of the attacker in Nice.
