In Austria a 4-year-old girl was killed on a toboggan run. She slid down a snow slope on a high speed sled and went off the track. That happened near Schladming, a city southeast of Salzburg.
The girl, wearing a ski suit, helmet and goggles, was sitting alone on a sledge that suddenly started sliding unintentionally. She rode about 180 meters over the partly frozen course. Then, according to the Austrian police, it went wrong: she slid over a dike and ended up in a forest.
Her father and a doctor provided first aid, after which the child was taken to hospital. There she died of her injuries. The girl’s family lives near Vienna.
Tobogganing is possible on landscaped tracks with a special sledge or trolley, but also on natural, snow-covered tracks. The Austrian girl was killed in such a natural job. There are several of these in the Schladming-Dachstein region.
