Austrian company announces televisions and set-top box under Nokia brand name – Image and sound – News

We call that marketing. And we have all been doing that for many years. You have many products that simply come from a factory and where suppliers / shops simply put their own sticker on. My big hobby is astronomy and I know a number of shops that sell large binoculars for astronomy. If you then take a good look, they are just the same binoculars, but with the store’s own brand logo. The store then assumes that its own name will inspire more confidence than an unknown Chinese logo.
Then you have the type that this article is about: a company licenses its name to other companies. Philips no longer does anything in consumer electronics, but it does have a certain name. TP Vision makes use of this and is benefiting from the name of Philips.
And then you still have a franchise. Many Jumbo supermarkets are not from Jumbo. For example, the one where I just went. That is an entrepreneur who has concluded a contract with Jumbo. He has two supermarkets that he can call Jumbo. He buys from Jumbo, although he also has some regional production that does not go through Jumbo. He pays a certain amount for the name and he hitches a ride on Jumbo. He himself would never be able to pay Lamers for a television advertisement and certainly not sponsor Max.
And I’m not even talking about all those hallmarks that suggest that something is good, but that just don’t make sense.

I don’t know whether it makes you wiser as a consumer. Why not? Ultimately, it is a good product or a bad product. The only thing that can happen is that you don’t go to a Jumbo anymore because the local franchiser makes a mess, or you don’t buy a Philips shaver because your TP Vision Philips TV is bad. But both cases can also occur if it is “just” the company. A store chain manager can also perform poorly and a certain product group or factory can also have poorer quality.
