Lhe men’s final of the Australian Open junior tournament could have ended in drama. And it is that just after Bruno Kuzuhara scored the last point, his rival, Jakub Mensik, collapsed on the ground due to fatigue and cramps.
The young Czech had struggled to get to his feet during the last game and needed to lean on the ground to contest the last two points.
And it is that the party was extended by space of 3 hours and 43 minutes. Kuzuhara, champion with a score of 7-6(4), 6-7(8) and 7-5, did not hesitate to run across the track to inquire about his rival, who had to be removed in a wheelchair.
The match was scheduled for the second round of the Rod Laver Arena, just before the women’s singles final between Ashleigh Barty and Danielle Collins, which ended with the Australian’s victory in two sets.
