Augsburg panthers present new coaching team

The Augsburg Panthers can present their new head coach. In the future, Mark Pederson will have the main sporting responsibility at the DEL Club. Pierre Beaulieu will be at his side as assistant coach in the 2021/22 season. Athletic trainer Gregor Grutschnig, goalkeeping trainer Max Dürr, mental trainer Ulf Wallisch and development coach Heiko Vogler will continue to be an important part of the Augsburg Panther trainer team in the coming season.

Mark Pederson was Head Coach and General Manager of Esbjerg Energy from 2014 to 2020. During his tenure, he formed the Danes into a top team in the Metal Ligaen, and led the club to two championships and one runner-up. After seven intense years in Denmark, the Canadian took a year off during the pandemic. The 53-year-old former striker still knows the German Ice Hockey League from his active career. Pederson completed 256 DEL games for Hanover, Krefeld and Mannheim. With the eagles he won the championship in 2001. The 1988 U20 world champion can also look back on 171 NHL games for Montréal, Philadelphia, San Jose and Detroit.

Pederson is looking forward to his new role: “It is an honor to be the head coach of such a traditional club in the PENNY DEL. I have always followed German ice hockey since my time here and was particularly impressed by the performances of the Panthers and enthusiastic fans in the CHL in 2019. When the opportunity arose to take on this delightful task, I didn’t have to think twice. I would like to help ignite a new ice hockey euphoria and celebrate many victories together with the fans. “

The new assistant coach is Pierre Beaulieu, a well-known face in Germany. The 38-year-old Canadian worked for the Krefeld Pinguine from 2018 to 2020, and in December 2019 he was promoted from assistant coach to head coach. Most recently, Beaulieu was head coach of the Steinbach Black Wings in Linz in 1992. He worked for a total of eight years in the EBEL for Klagenfurt (2010-2014), Innsbruck (2014-2018) and also for the Austrian ice hockey association in various positions within the coaching team.

Panther shareholder Lothar Sigl on these important personnel decisions: “Mark Pederson and Pierre Beaulieu quickly emerged as our dream appointments. We had a lot of good conversations, both of which fit perfectly with our philosophy. They know what kind of ice hockey we want to see here, can identify with it and are passionate about their new role. Now it is important to jointly form a powerful team for the coming season that will give us all a lot of joy. “
