The novelty of the time in the field of accessibility is a bluetooth mouse that can be controlled with the tongue, working to control computers, tablets, cell phones and any other devices compatible with wireless technology and with a navigation area. Discreet, it stays inside the user’s mouth, and is placed like a common dental plate.

According to the company responsible for the innovation — Augmental —, the purpose of the device is to help paraplegics and people with other movement limitations in the use of their devices. In addition to control the position of a cursor, the controller, called MouthPad, also allows “left” and “right” clicks, like a common mouse, through the respective gestures of sucking and pressing with the tongue.

Invisible but still limited

According to the company’s own advertising, the MouthPad is invisible to the world, as it remains in the user’s mouth, on the palate (roof of the mouth). In addition to individuals with mobility limitations, the product is also touted as a way for anyone to express her creativity, creating art and communicating in a unique and different way — in addition to being described as “more intuitive”.

In addition to not being visually obvious, the device was also designed to have the least possible impact on the user’s speech, that is, it should not hinder understanding if the person using it wants to talk while keeping the wearable in the mouth — it is only 0.7 mm thick. In addition to being convenient, it is also a plus point in accessibility, as it helps users who need speech recognition to carry out your daily tasks.

The only problem with the technology is that it is in a testing period, so you have to get on a waiting list to use it. Made of dental resin, the device can work for more than 5 hours straight and takes about 2 hours to fully charge.

Although the technology is still in its infancy and will take some time to fully reach the market, it already represents an exciting new opportunity in the field of accessibility, apart from the fact that it is a very curious device.
