Audi is one of those carmakers that has already announced a gradual transition exclusively to electric cars. The strategy also covers the future of the big Audi Q8. The successor is to arrive only in the form of an electric car.
The carmaker has confirmed that it is preparing a model called the Q8 e-tron for 2026, which will be nothing more than the successor to today’s SUV-coupe Q8. It will be created according to the strategy of transition to purely electric cars. It is since 2026 that Audi is only going to introduce electric cars.
We do not know more information about the news. However, the deployment of the newly developed Group platform is already expected PPE (Premium Platform Electric) designed for large, luxury electric cars. Unlike the MEB used in the group’s compact electric cars, it will use the most advanced technology. You will need an electrical system with a voltage of 800 V or the possibility of charging with a current of up to 350 kW. Air suspension, swiveling of both axles or torque vectoring will also be available.
In any case, the new Audi Q8 e-tron will be manufactured at a factory in Brussels, which has already been converted into electric cars. Today, e-tron and e-tron Sportback electric SUVs are being developed there. Today’s Q8 is created in Bratislava.
The announcement of the relocation secures another future for the production plant in Brussels, which has been producing exclusively Audi cars since 2007. Between 2010 and 2018, a small A1 hatchback was produced here, and since then the plant has focused on the production of electric SUVs. The Brussels factory was originally founded in 1949 to produce vehicles from the American carmaker Studebaker. As early as 1954, however, production of the Volkswagen Type 1 (the famous Beetle) began here, and Porsche cars were also produced here for a short time. Audi took over the factory in 2007.
In recent months, however, there has been a lot of speculation about the future of the Brussels factory. It lost the contract for the production of a new generation of electric cars from Audi, Porsche and Bentley, from 2024, which was eventually won by a plant in Hanover, Germany, which still specializes in the production of commercial vehicles.
