The auction house that organizes the sale at shoe chain Brantano expects to be able to open fifty stores on Monday. On Saturday there were more than 60. Some stores will not open until after midday, to give staff more time to clean up the stores.

The start of the sale, with discounts of 75 percent, was chaotic on Saturday. Shops drew crowds, and in some places the police had to intervene.

To avoid problems in the future, the organizing auction house Moyersoen will install extra cash registers and deploy as many extra staff as possible, says marketing manager Jeroen Van Daele. The auction house said it had “constructive” talks with mayors who have indicated that things should be done differently.

Moyersoen expects the sale to take a few more weeks. “Even though sales were fantastic on Saturday, we see that many stores still have a lot of stock. We will also try to move the stock of stores that can no longer be opened. ”

The unions called for an end to the sale. ACV unionist Sven De Scheemaeker called the course of Saturday “degoutant and scandalous”. The unions also question the work of the receivers, who are looking for a buyer for the shoe chain. They announced that they will go to court with their grievances.
