Gillé and Vliegen, who share 21st place in the world in doubles, form the pair seeded N.9 in the Spanish capital. They inherited in the first round Stefanos Tsitsipas (ATP 7 in singles and ATP 141 in doubles) and his brother Petros (ATP 105 in doubles), beneficiaries of an invitation.
The Belgian Davis Cup pair won the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Monte-Carlo in mid-April, their first victory in a Masters 1000. However, both players remain eliminated in the first round of the ATP 250 tournament in Munich.
Gillé and Vliegen are participating in the Madrid tournament for the second time after reaching the semi-finals in 2021.
