Atletico Madrid win 2-1 over Espanyol in the continuation of La Liga. The sweet result was obtained by Los Colchoneros after playing with 10 men and VAR drama in injury time.
Atletico vs Espanyol took place at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, Sunday (17/4/2022) night WIB. Both teams played to a goalless draw in the first half.
Atletico were able to steal the advantage first when the second half had only been running for five minutes through Yannick Carrasco. When they were ahead, Atletico actually lost players after Geoffrey Kondogbia was given a second yellow card.
Espanyol then managed to equalize the score to 1-1. It was Raul de Tomas who listed his name on the scoreboard.
Atletico managed to finish the match with a 2-1 win in injury time. Carrasco scores a brace from the penalty spot.
The course of the match
Espanyol threatened first through Leandro Cabrera’s header. The ball leads to the goal, but can still be overcome by Jan Oblak.
The duel went tough after threats from Espanyol. Both teams struggled to spread threats to each other.
Atletico had a golden opportunity in the 35th minute through a counter-attack. Joao Felix then fired home from close range from a tight angle, but the ball went narrowly wide of the target.
The two teams continued to take turns launching attacks. On the other hand, everything that was done did not result in a clean chance and the first half was completed 0-0.
Espanyol threatened Atletico when the second half had only been running for five minutes. Sergi Darder, from very close range, fired a shot and the ball was kept out by Oblak.
Atlético became the team that could steal the first goal. Yannick Carrasco tore the Espanyol goal after completing Matheus Cunha’s pass.
Disaster for Atletico in the 71st minute. Geoffrey Kondogbia made a foul in front of the penalty box, which earned him a second yellow card.
Raul de Tomas then took the execution of a free kick. The ball was pushed over by Oblak, but still went into the goal after sliding on the post and Oblak’s back. the score changed to 1-1 in the 74th minute.
