Atlético-MG forwards sale of Junior Alonso to Krasnodar, from Russia | athletic-mg

THE Atlético-MG on Tuesday morning, forwarded the sale of defender Junior Alonso to Krasnodar, from Russia. The business should yield about 8.2 million dollars to Minas Gerais coffers, about R$ 46.7 million.

There are only bureaucratic details left to confirm the sale, such as the exchange of draft contracts and the defender’s approval of the Russian club’s medical exams.

The deal is on the way to be the big sale in Galo’s transfer window. Head of the Paraguayan national team, Alonso was bought by Atlético from Boca Juniors in July 2020 for 3 million euros (R$ 18 million, at the price at the time). Thus, the profit from trading is 159%.

Atlético’s budget foresees R$ 140 million in athlete sales for 2022. The negotiation with Russian football involving Alonso will be responsible for 33.3% of the goal in the football department headed by Rodrigo Caetano.

The player quickly became a key part of the defense, acting on the left side of the central defense. With Sampaoli and Cuca, he was the absolute starter, maintaining his position in the Paraguayan national team, partnering with Gustavo Gómez. The Palmeiras defender was even consulted by Alexandre Mattos, then Galo’s football director, about Alonso, giving the “endorsement”.

– Alonso, actually, Sampaoli indicated him. I even called Gustavo Gomez asking Alonso, and he said it very well. He was very strong with Boca and we managed to run over him. The pandemic helped, Boca was unsure whether it would come back or not, and I was emphatic. Things worked out. Sampaoli was fundamental in Alonso’s trip – said Mattos, in a participation to the GE Market Center this Monday.

Atlético has a recent history of good sales of defenders abroad. He traded Jemerson to Monaco, in 2016, and Bremer to Torino, in 2018.

In the case of Alonso, he is out of the picture, as he will turn 29 in February and has already been through Europe (Celta de Vigo and Lille). It will be one of the greatest sales in the club’s history.
