Atlanta United continues shopping

Just over two weeks after capturing Mexican Jurgen Damm, Atlanta United made another acquisition on Saturday, winning promising Paraguayan striker Erik Lopez.

Lopez, who arrives from Club Olimpia, is only 18 years old. However, he already has some experience with professionals, having four goals in 16 appearances in the jersey of Olimpia, which is also his training club.

He notably obtained playing time at the Copa Libertadores, a prestigious continental competition in South America.

For now, the striker will join Atlanta United 2 in USL. He will officially be an Atlanta United player next January.

No transfer amount has been released.

Busio draws attention

MLS is increasingly becoming a source of interesting talent for the biggest leagues in the world. These days it’s Gianluca Busio, an 18-year-old Sporting Kansas City midfielder, that attracts attention.

According to the ESPN network, Busio has three Serie A clubs in Italy on his trail. Fiorentina even made a concrete offer last winter.

The American signed his first professional contract in 2017 when he was only 15 years old.

So far, he has 33 appearances under the tie with Sporting and is now a regular player, having participated in the team’s four games in 2020.

Crew loses defender

The Columbus Crew has emerged as one of the healthiest teams in the MLS tournament so far, but lost an important defense member on Thursday.

Dutch central back Vito Wormgoor had to go home after being injured in the Crew’s first game at the tournament against Cincinnati.

The 31-year-old underwent surgery on his right ankle on Wednesday. He must be absent for a period of four to six months.

Teibert rewarded

Member of the Whitecaps since their inaugural MLS season in 2011, product of the organization, Canadian midfielder Russell Teibert signed a contract extension year old with the British Columbia club on Saturday.

The 27-year-old, who has more than 200 appearances with the ‘Caps, has a contract valid until 2023, with an option for the 2024 season.
