Athlete Roelf B. and Gert-Jan N. accept the Sziget drug trafficking proposal

The Dutch athlete Roelf B. has confessed to drug trafficking at the Hungarian festival Sziget. With that confession, he accepts an eight-year prison sentence. His school friend Gert-Jan N. has also confessed. In doing so, he accepts a sentence for ten years in prison.

The pair were arrested last year. B. and N. received a criminal proposal from the Hungarian Public Prosecutor’s Office in April. The judge may already give judgment in the case today. The penalty is expected to be roughly the same as the OM’s proposal, even if the judge is not bound by the proposal.

B.’s defense is trying to get an even lower sentence for the ex-athlete, lawyer Rachel Imamkhan says.

B. (22) and N. (23) had previously known. The pair were caught at the festival with nearly 2,700 ecstasy pills and 20 kilos of joints. They sold it from their tent. They also had 5,000 price lists for the drugs. Those lists contained N.’s phone number. That is why he is considered the ‘head of the organization’ and his criminal proposal is higher. The drugs had a street value of almost 300,000 euros.
