In the capital Addis Abeba, but also in smaller towns and villages, thousands of people came to the street to protest. Both protesters and members of the security forces were killed during these protests. Several buildings were also set on fire. “We were not prepared for these disturbances,” said the regional spokesman.
The murder of the popular protest singer Hachalu Hundessa has sharpened the ethnic relations in the country. The 34-year-old singer is said to have been murdered Monday night, according to police. The singer would have received death threats before, but it is not clear who is behind the murder. The police is investigating the case.
