Three sources revealed to “Masrawy” that at least 10 medical staff working at the Oncology Institute were infected with the emerging corona virus, after positive laboratory tests were confirmed.
The Medical Syndicate said in a statement Friday evening, that “10 doctors and nurses have been transferred to the Isolation Hospital after confirming that they have contracted the new Corona virus.”
Dr. Ibrahim Al-Zayyat, a member of the Doctors ’Syndicate, said that the 10 injured people were transferred to Al-Agouza Hospital for isolation in Giza.
Al-Zayyat said: “Medical teams are vulnerable to infection all the time … Our statistics indicate that 90 different medical teams have been infected since the beginning of the crisis.”
In the context, Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, Secretary General of University Hospitals at the Ministry of Higher Education, explained that the source of infection for the injured is the Oncology Institute, one of the nurses who works in an external hospital that had previously had a case of infection, and transmitted the infection to his colleagues.
Abdul Ghaffar did not specify the number of injuries at the Oncology Institute, and only said: “What I want to say is that there are already injuries between doctors and nursing.”
The total number that was registered in Egypt with the new Corona virus as of Friday, 985 cases, including 216 cases that were cured and discharged from the isolation hospital, and 66 deaths, according to data of the Ministry of Health.
